StarryTales ("we," "us," "our") is a subscription service that emails parents a personalized, AI-generated bedtime story featuring their child each night. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using StarryTales (the "Service"), you agree to the practices described in this policy.
Account Information. When you sign up, we collect your name, email address, password (or other authentication method), and billing status.
Child Profile Data. To personalize your child's stories, we collect your child's first name or nickname, age range, and story preferences (e.g., favorite themes or story types) that you provide. We do not collect your child's full legal name, date of birth, school information, or photos.
Story Content. We store the prompts and preferences you submit, along with the AI-generated story text created for your child.
Delivery Data. We use the email address you provide to send nightly stories, and we may keep basic delivery/open logs to make sure stories are being received.
Usage Data. We collect basic analytics about how the Service is used — such as pages visited, sign-up funnel events, and error logs — to help us maintain and improve the Service. We do not use third-party ad-tracking tools.
Payment Information. Subscription payments are processed by Stripe, our payment processor. StarryTales does not collect or store your full card number — Stripe handles that securely on our behalf.

We use Anthropic (Claude) to generate story text, and Resend to deliver story emails. The child details and story preferences you submit are sent to Anthropic solely to generate that night's story, and to Resend solely to deliver it to you. We do not permit these providers to use your data to train their own models, beyond what is inherent to standard API processing under their terms.
StarryTales accounts are created and managed by a parent or guardian — not by the child directly. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13; all child profile information is supplied by the parent or guardian who creates the account.

Your data is stored on Render and is encrypted both in transit and at rest. We retain your account and child profile data for as long as your account remains active, and we delete it upon account or story deletion, except where we're required to retain it for legal or accounting purposes.
While we take reasonable steps to protect your information, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
